February: A helluva month

The month of February, even in a leap year, is the shortest month. Yet, for Sketchpad Comedy, it was the most jam packed month we’ve ever had.

Here’s a recap of everything that happened throughout the month:

STL Sketchpad 14: Everybody’s Doin It on February 2nd

12650810_841715032617458_8281606971525902211_nWe set out to perform the biggest sketch of all time and we did it! Every single audience member was on stage at one time and we all participated in a sketch together. We had just over 70 people in the audience for the show and then on the stage for sketch comedy history.

Trivia Night at Da La Salle Middle School on February 5th

We had a lot of fun for a good cause. We sponsored a table for the night and even raffled off a few tickets for an upcoming Sketchpad Show. A big shout out to Cait Bladt for helping us organize and we were honored to be a part of the night’s festivities (even if we didn’t win). Creepy Sketch Show on February 11th

Matt Martin and Michael Miles put on their first ever Creepy Sketch Show at the Heavy Anchor. They called it Mordecai Montrose’s Morbid Morals Presents: The Book of Valentino. It was weird, creepy and most of all fun. They packed the Anchor and everyone there left feeling a little bit better about their Valentine’s weekend. They plan on doing future shows and if you enjoyed Tales From the Crypt, you’ll love this live show. Like their Facebook Page.

The Catalogue Show on February 13th

12733367_1226510434030916_4684646191522417592_nJoshua Evans, Christopher Melton and Marissa Sedmak did a great job hosting the live version of the Catalogue Show. A few Sketchpad peeps participated and it made for a fun night of comedy that also featured some stand ups. Another packed show at the Heavy Anchor and another reason to celebrate the direction STL Comedy is heading into. Like The Catalogue on Facebook.

Andel Sudik’s workshop & Showcase on the 13th and 14th

Sketchpad friends came out in force for this workshop and showcase. Andel Sudik from The Second City taught us some great ways to create sketch comedy, how to pump up sketches through improv and then we all got to put on a killer show at the Improv Shop Sunday night. The crowd loved it and so did those that participated in the 12+ hours of sketch 12717920_847517782037183_863503540072042186_nworkshop goodness. It’s amazing to get opportunities like this from professionals around the country who live this every single day. Read our interview with Andel.

Bootlegger’s Ball with We Are Live Radio

Our friends at We Are Live Radio had a big ol’ party for St. Judes Dudes. About 150 people came through the beautiful doors of the Thaxton Speakeasy and most were dressed in their 1920s best. Sketchpad performed a few sketches in front of the audience, (see pictures of that here) but mostly it just felt great to find more ways to give back to organizations doing good things in the community. We were honored to be invited. Keep up with the We Are Live Radio guys who are going to be on stage with Adam Carolla at the Pageant on March 26th! Get your tickets for that here. These guys are working their butts off and reaping great rewards because of it.

STL Sketchpad 15: St. Louis Public Radio Show

We sold out the show with 9 days to go. Not bad. We were able to fill just over 120 seats and put on a completely original show in a very short amount of time. The crowd took a moment to settle in (this is sketch comedy after all) but once they realized what was happening everyone seemed to really enjoy the show. It was a completely different audience than we are used to having, but a gracious and receptive one. Again, we are so thankful to St. Louis Public Radio and the Kitchen Sink series for inviting us to participate and we hope to do it again in the near future.

Four episodes of Welcome Thru Effingham Podcast

WelcomeThruEffingham_logo1_CreatedBySeason 2 of Welcome Thru Effingham, our sketch comedy podcast launched this month. We introduced a new format and schedule. Instead of bi weekly episodes we switched to one episode every single week. A lot of work but we think it’s worth it. It’s been a fun project and we can’t wait to figure out where season 2 is going to go. We also celebrated over 1300 downloads for the month, double our previous month’s high. Thank you to everyone who has listened and continues to support this awesome project. Do you need to catch up? Check out our latest episode or download past episodes by clicking here.
